The Union Government has approved Justice Sanjiv Khanna as the 51st Chief Justice of India (CJI).

Justice Khanna is currently the first puisne judge at the Supreme Court and is recommended by the outgoing CJI, DY Chandrachud.

He is the nephew of the notable Supreme Court judge Hans Raj Khanna, remembered for his dissent in the landmark ADM Jabalpur case.

Justice Khanna previously served as a judge on the Delhi High Court, following in the footsteps of his father, Justice Dev Raj Khanna.

He completed his schooling at Modern School, New Delhi, graduated from St. Stephen’s College, and studied law at the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi.

His father was a Delhi High Court judge, and his mother, Saroj Khanna, was a Hindi lecturer at Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi.

Khanna began practicing law in Delhi in 1983, working on cases in constitutional law, taxation, arbitration, and medical negligence.
