Air Quality in Delhi
The announcement comes at a time when the air quality in Delhi has raised concerns. On Sunday, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in most areas crossed 350, which is considered "very poor." According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi’s overall AQI stood at 364 as of 7 am on Sunday.
Specific areas showed worrying figures: New Moti Bagh reported an AQI of 352, RK Puram at 380, Vivek Vihar at 388, Dwarka Sector 8 at 385, and Lodhi Road at 330. Nehru Nagar and Anand Vihar recorded AQI levels of 431 and 427, respectively, falling into the "severe" category.
An AQI between 200 and 300 is considered "poor," while 301-400 is "very poor." Levels between 401 and 450 are categorised as "severe," and anything above 450 is "severe plus."
In line with guidelines from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in NCR and Adjoining Areas, state governments in the region can shift to online classes if the AQI reaches the "severe" category (401-450).
