Satara school girl held at knifepoint; locals rescue her from jilted lover in viral video

The accused was identified as Aryan Waghmale, a resident of Basappa Peth, Karanje in Satara city and a student of class 12.

In a shocking incident in broad daylight, an 18-year-old youth threatened a minor girl at knifepoint in a residential area of Maharashtra’s Satara city on Monday afternoon. The girl, a Class 10 student, was held by the youth with a knife to her throat, the Free Press Journal reported.

However, alerted citizens present on the spot and police personnel responded quickly, and rescued the girl, averting a potential tragedy.

The accused was identified as Aryan Waghmale, a resident of Basappa Peth, Karanje in Satara city and a student of class 12. The Shahupuri Police have taken him into custody and registered a case against him.

The incident, which occurred in public view and was captured on camera, took place around 4 pm when the girl was returning home from school. According to FPJ, the accused, who is said to be a jilted lover, and the girl live in the same locality in Satara city. Soon after the youth accosted the girl and held a knife to her neck, onlookers gathered at the scene and one of them contacted constable Sagar Nikam from the City Police Station's intelligence wing, reported Marathi news portal ESakal.

Upon receiving the alert, police constables Sagar Nikam and Dheeraj More arrived at the scene and after attempts to reason with the youth failed, one constable distracted him while the other disarmed him from behind, allowing the girl to be freed.

According to the report, once the girl was freed, the crowd turned on the attacker and assaulted him. Police had a tough time shielding him from the mob. Eventually, they managed to extract the boy and escorted him to the Shahupuri Police Station.

Inspector Sachin Mhetre was informed of the incident and both the accused and the girl were taken to the district hospital for a medical examination, the report added. Later in the evening, a formal complaint was filed at Shahupuri Police Station. According to the report, the motive behind the attack is the girl's rejection of the youth.
