Muskan Rastogi, the woman jailed in Meerut for the murder of her husband and concealing his dismembered body in a blue drum, gave birth to a baby girl on Monday evening, jail officials said.
According to a report by News18, she delivered at the Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College after she was brought in late Sunday night when her labour pains intensified.
Senior Jail Superintendent Dr Viresh Raj Sharma told PTI that Muskan was admitted around 11.30 pm on Sunday. Dr Shakun Singh, head of the Obstetrics Department, said the newborn weighed 2.4 kg and doctors were able to conduct a normal delivery. Muskan’s family has been informed, though no relatives have visited her at the hospital.
Given the sensitivity of the case, police presence has been strengthened at both the hospital entrance and inside the wards. Hospital authorities said Muskan has been kept under continuous observation throughout the day, and that security protocols and medical records are being updated regularly.
Muskan and her alleged lover, Sahil Shukla, are accused of drugging and stabbing Saurabh Rajput to death on the night of March 4 at their home in Indiranagar, Meerut. Police allege the duo severed his head and hands and hid the remains in a blue drum filled with cement before fleeing to Himachal Pradesh. Investigators later found a bone fragment in a suitcase the accused allegedly intended to use to dispose of the body.
According to police, Muskan had been planning the murder since November 2023. Officers say Saurabh was killed “not because of tantra-mantra, but because he was an obstacle in their love affair." Muskan and Sahil were arrested on March 18, shortly after she allegedly confessed to her family.
