A 24-year-old Haryanvi model, Sheetal Choudhary, was found dead in a Haryana canal with her throat slit in a grisly murder that has shocked the local community. Police have arrested her boyfriend, Sunil - a married father of two - who has reportedly confessed to the crime after initially claiming the death was a car accident.
As per NDTV, Sheetal, also known as Simmi, was last seen alive on June 14 when she travelled to Ahar village in Panipat for an album shoot. Her boyfriend Sunil reportedly arrived that night and took her to his car, where the two allegedly had drinks before an argument broke out.
Around 1.30 am, Sheetal made a desperate video call to her sister Neha, saying the Sunil was beating her. Shortly after, her phone was switched off and she could not be reached.
The next day, Sunil reported to a Panipat hospital, claiming his car had plunged into a canal and that Sheetal had drowned while he survived. Police recovered the car but initially found no trace of Sheetal’s body, NDTV reported.
On June 16, her throat-slit body was discovered floating in Kharkhoda, nearly 80 km from Panipat. She was identified by distinctive tattoos on her hand and chest, along with multiple stab wounds.
Sub-Inspector Sandeep of CIA-1 Panipat confirmed that Sunil, a resident of Israna, was arrested after confessing to the murder. Sunil confessed to stabbing Sheetal and attempting to stage the murder as a car accident by dumping the vehicle in the canal, the officer was cited by News18.
The two had known each other for six years after Sheetal worked at Sunil’s hotel in Karnal. Despite his marriage, Sunil had reportedly proposed to her, but Sheetal rejected him upon learning he had two children. Sheetal, herself married with a five-month-old child, worked in the Haryanvi music industry.
Her family had filed a missing complaint on June 15 after she failed to return from the shoot. A post-mortem is underway as investigations continue into the exact motive behind the killing.
