The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has approved the construction of a new three-lane RCC bridge over the Hawalia drain near the Sector P-3 roundabout. This bridge will replace the old, narrow structure that has long created problems for commuters. The work will be carried out by the irrigation department at an estimated cost of Rs 7 crore, The Times of India reported.

The new bridge is expected to bring much-needed relief to people travelling between Knowledge Park, Noida Expressway, Pari Chowk, Swarn Nagari, and the Yamuna Expressway. According to the GNIDA officials, the project is part of larger efforts to modernise city infrastructure, cut down traffic jams, and ensure safer travel for residents.

As per the plan, the bridge will be 25 metres long and 10.5 metres wide, with space for three lanes of traffic. Its height will be raised by at least three metres so that it matches the existing bridge on the opposite side, which connects the P-3 roundabout with Omega 1.

The GNIDA CEO has already given the final nod for the project. Senior manager Manoj Sachan confirmed that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed with the irrigation department. However, approval from its headquarters is still pending before the tender process begins. He also noted that during the recent monsoon, the road was flooded with sewer water, making the new construction even more urgent, TOI reported.

Officials expect the project to be completed within one year. At present, commuters using the road from Omega 1 to the P-3 roundabout face major inconvenience.

The old bridge is narrow, lies at a lower level than the adjoining road, and gets choked with traffic during peak hours. Its weak railings and worn-out structure also make it unsafe.

Residents say they have been waiting for this upgrade for years. "Crossing the old bridge during rush hour is nerve-racking. The road dips suddenly, and you are always worried about two-wheelers losing balance. A wider, safer bridge is something we have been waiting for," TOI quoted Rajesh Gupta, a resident of Omega 1 who commutes daily to Knowledge Park, as saying.

Alongside the bridge, GNIDA is also widening main roads and developing new links to further reduce congestion and ensure smoother travel across Greater Noida.
