As Independence Day approaches, mock security drills at Delhi’s Red Fort have uncovered alarming lapses after a "dummy terrorist" from the Delhi Police Special Cell infiltrated the premises undetected, even reaching the children’s section with imitation explosives.

According to an Hindustan Times report, the operative recorded videos and took selfies during the breach, marking the third such failure in recent drills.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Raja Banthia acknowledged the shortcomings but emphasised the drills’ necessity. “We continue to conduct them to rule out any shortcomings and we have had several successful drills where mock operatives were caught,” he was cited by HT as saying.

Another officer cited multiple successful attempts, including three subversion drills and nine infiltration tests by various units, though the recent failures have raised concerns.
