Covid in Mumbai: 35 new cases in city, 8 in Pune; Maharasthra logs 242 infections in May

Maharashtra reported 43 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, with 35 from Mumbai. The state logged 242 cases in May alone. Most infections remain mild, with no signs of increased severity.

Maharashtra reported 43 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, pushing the total number of active cases in the state to 209, according to the state health department. Out of these, Mumbai alone reported 35 new cases, while Pune recorded 8, India TV reported.

Since January 2025, Maharashtra has reported a total of 300 Covid-19 cases. Monthly data shows that the state had only one case each in January and February, no cases in March, four in April, and a sharp increase in May with 242 cases, making up about 80 per cent of the year’s total so far. Mumbai has been the most affected, with 248 cases, which is over 82 per cent of the state's total.

On Saturday, Maharashtra recorded 47 new cases. Mumbai again saw the highest number of infections (30), followed by Pune (7), Thane (6), Navi Mumbai (3), and Nagpur (1), according to a report by Jagran English.

Covid-19 cases are slowly rising across India. Kerala has reported the most cases, followed by Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. Delhi has also
seen a slight increase recently. However, the Union Health Ministry has said that most of these cases are mild, and patients are recovering at home. There is no sign that the current variants are causing more severe illness or spreading faster than before.
