Two upcoming Namma Metro stations under Phase 3 will be taller than Bengaluru’s Jayadeva Hospital station, currently the tallest metro station in India, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd (BMRCL) has confirmed.
The Goraguntepalya station on Tumakuru Road will have a rail level of 33 metres, while the Mysuru Road station will stand at 32 metres. In comparison, the Jayadeva Hospital station, an interchange between the Yellow and Pink Lines, has a rail level of about 29 metres and a roof height of nearly 38 metres, Deccan Herald reported.
Phase 3 of Namma Metro will consist of two major corridors. The 32.3-km Orange Line will connect JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura via the Outer Ring Road, while the 12.15-km Silver Line will link Hosahalli to Kadabagere along Magadi Road.
Together, the two corridors will include 37.151 km of double-decker structures, where the metro line will be built above a flyover, similar to the design seen at Jayadeva.
A senior BMRCL official said that both Goraguntepalya and Mysuru Road stations will surpass Jayadeva in height, marking a significant engineering milestone for the metro network. Mysuru Road station, like Jayadeva, will have six levels but will exceed Jayadeva’s rail height by more than two metres.
Originally, the detailed project report proposed the Green–Orange Line interchange at Peenya. However, the alignment required the metro to turn sharply after the Kanteerava Studio flyover and pass through Raja Industrial Estate, which would have demanded structures as tall as 46.5 metres, far higher than feasible limits due to steep gradients.
To avoid this, BMRCL shifted the interchange to Goraguntepalya, reducing the overall alignment by 200 metres, cutting costs by ₹669 crore and bringing down the number of portal beams from 61 to 14.
Several other stations in Phase 3 will also feature elevated heights. The Sumanahalli Cross station, common to both the Orange and Silver Lines, will have a rail level of 26 metres with stacked platforms. JP Nagar station will stand at 22 metres, with a foot-overbridge connecting the Green and Orange Line platforms.
At JP Nagar 4th Phase, the Pink and Orange Lines will share a common concourse, with a flyover running above them. On the Silver Line, the Sunkadakatte station will have the flyover positioned above the metro line, while at Kempapura, the Orange and Blue Lines will share a common station.
BMRCL is expected to issue civil work tenders for Phase 3 shortly, with the entire project slated for completion by 2031.
