7 sedans that have kept the segment alive

Sedan market share

The sedan segment has been losing market share in India as buyers move towards SUVs. The contribution of sedans dropped to less than 8% in FY25.

Limited models

With the buyers now preferring SUVs over sedans, the segment has been more or less neglected by the carmakers. In the mass market, just a few sedan options are left.

Sedan future

The future does not seem bright for the sedan segment. Underwhelming demand, resulting in low volumes, is keeping a lot of carmakers away from this space.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

The Dzire is the largest-selling sedan in India. Its frugal character has made it popular among the masses. The Dzire is priced between Rs 6.84 lakh and Rs 10.19 lakh (ex-showroom).

Honda Amaze

Among the most trusted sedans in India, the Amaze is known for its quality. It currently sits in the price bracket of Rs 8.10 lakh to Rs 11.20 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hyundai Aura

Despite low segment volumes, the Aura has done well for Hyundai, courtesy of its feature-loaded character. It is based on the price range of Rs 6.54 lakh to Rs 9.11 lakh (ex-showroom).

Honda City

Once a dream car for many, the City seems to have lost its charm now, as buyers opt for SUVs. Its price starts at Rs 12.38 lakh and goes up to Rs 16.65 lakh (ex-showroom).

Hyundai Verna

The Verna has witnessed a drop in sales over the past few months. There is divided opinion about the design of the car. It comes in the price range of Rs 11.07 lakh to Rs 17.58 lakh (ex-showroom).

Skoda Slavia

A powerful car known for its terrific performance, the Slavia is priced between Rs 10.49 lakh and Rs 18.39 lakh (ex-showroom).

Volkswagen Virtus

The Virtus is the current king of the mid-size sedan segment with higher sales than the Slavia, Verna and City. It can be had in the price bracket of Rs 11.56 lakh to Rs 19.40 lakh (ex-showroom).
