Cummins is a very good long term bet. This sector has very few good companies. Making engines is not easy. It takes considerable amount of technology. Not many companies have this knowhow. You can not buy it or copy it easily. Cummins is the only big international player which has set us shop in India for some time now. They have localised most of the components. Apart from Caterpillar, there is no other company making CNG engines. This company will do better in coming days, as CNG becomes more available countrywide.

Cummins India Ltd has announced the following Unaudited results for the quarter ended September 30, 2009:
The Company has posted a net profit after tax of Rs 877.40 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2009 where as the same was at Rs 939.20 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2008. Total Income is Rs 6355.10 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2009 where as the same was at Rs 8241.90 million for the quarter ended September 30, 2008.
- The scheme of amalgamation of Cummins Sales & Services India Ltd. (CSS) and Cummins Auto Services Ltd (CASL) with the Company approved by the Honble High Court of Judicature at Mumbai became operative on April 01, 2009 retrospectively from April 01, 2008, (the "Appointed Date") and given effect to in the Financial Statements for the year ended March 31, 2009 and results for the quarter and half year ended September 30, 2009. Consequently the same are not comparable with those of the corresponding previous periods. ...

The Company has now informed the Exchange that "The Honble Labour Court at Pune vide its interim order dated October 7, 2009 (copy of which has been received by the Company on October 8, 2009) has interalia, directed the opponent Union Member Associates (except 8 suspended Union office bearers and 47 union members for alleged grave acts of misconduct) to resume their duties immediately and work peacefully as per their routine practices. On October 12, 2009, a few production Associates have started reporting for their duties as directed by the Court"....

On October 12, 2009, a few production Associates have started reporting for their duties as director by the Court. ...

Cummins vulnerable to meet accidents now, HENCE AVOID

Hi,
The stand by the management shows that they have a backbone. It is a good sign. Unions try to get wages for their members which are above the market rates in general. With multinational companies, unions normally succeed. The present time is a good time for such confrontations. There is not much pressure on the production facilities. This may lead to permanent job losses and more outsourcing of work to the number of small scale companies. Small scale companies are generally more efficient.
In the long term, this may be good for Cummins bottom line.
