'In dreams lay responsibility'

What is Dagmar Jewellery all about?
Dagmar Jewellery is an affordable luxury brand which incorporates couture elements in its range of jewellery.
How did you hit upon the idea for Dagmar?
When I had barely finished my Architecture programme, I sensed a certain creative pull towards the Jewellery sphere in design. I found a huge gap in the market where there were a lot of high-end and fashion or artificial jewellery was available. Therefore I established a product line that was cutting edge and opulent yet affordable. Also, since there was a missing awareness for India's brilliant aesthetic in the West, I structured the distribution globally.

The quote that has stayed in your mind:
"In dreams lay responsibility"
What did I learn?
Many people can be businessmen but not everyone can be an entrepreneur. The difference being that to be the latter one needs to be extremely accustomed to risk. As a business grows, the responsibilities and scale also grows.
Pet peeve about starting a business in India
For sure the bureaucracy, permissions and getting all the business linked requirements and logistics. Of course, things are getting more streamlined. Everything now comes at a high price and entails a lot of research and procedure. Lack of clarity and transparency at every level is another issue.
Biggest blessing for Indian entrepreneurs
Opportunity! We are now an incredible and open market to produce almost anything under the sun and to also subsequently find a market to sell it back. The sheer abundance of talent, technique and craftsmanship is incredible.
Comments on your journey...
I am glad I switched to the jewellery business. As we grow older such decisions become little difficult to take!

Pavan Anand, studied architecture and later made a spontaneous decision to instead design jewellery about eight years ago. He is the only Indian entrepreneur to do a showing with Versace. He has managed to take Indian jewellery aesthetic to West and creates a market for it.
