BOJ's Suda: Risks to economy in balance now
Bank of Japan board member Miyako Suda said on Wednesday that the upside and downside risks to the Japanese economy and prices were largely in balance at the moment.
Bank of Japan board member Miyako Suda said on Wednesday that the upside and downside risks to the Japanese economy and prices were largely in balance at the moment.
But Suda said the central bank adopted a new funding operation on Tuesday because a risk had emerged that currency swings and the issue of deflation could negatively affect sentiment among companies and households.
"I don't think the risk of a deflationary spiral is rapidly rising," Suda added in a news conference after meeting local business leaders in Kofu, central Japan.
The central bank offered banks more short-term funds after an emergency meeting on Tuesday, relieving government pressure on the central bank to help avert another recession before upper house polls next year.
