Clinton warns against unilateral US action in Libya

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton today warned against unilateral US military actions in Libya noting this could have unforeseen consequences.

Clinton would also be meeting the Libyan opposition leaders when she travels to the region next week.

"I'm one of those who believe absent international cooperation the US stepping into this could have unforeseen consequences," Clinton told lawmakers at a Congressional hearing.

"We had a no-fly zone over Iraq. It did not prevent Saddam Hussein from bombing his civilians and it did not get him out of office. We had a no-fly zone over Serbia: it still took 78 days of bombing to get Milosevic out of office," she said.

Clinton said US stands with the Libyan people as they brave bombs and bullets to demand that Gaddafi must go now, without further violence or delay.
