Mumbai, Feb 13 (PTI) Three days before the civic body polls, city police today seized seven firearms and 12 live rounds and arrested a man from Bihar, who had come here to deliver the weapons, police said today. Acting on a tip-off, a trap was laid near Kurla Railway Terminus, when the accused, a former private bank employee, was spotted waiting for the weapons to be collected, police said. "The suspect, identified as Javed Aalam Shabbir, was caught, when he was found in possession of six revolvers and a pistol with 'US-made' marks on them. However, the weapons appear to have been made either in Bihar or Uttar Pradesh," said Additional Police Commissioner (Special Branch) Sunil Paraskar. A photo identification with his name was recovered from him, on which, his residential address was mentioned as Patna in Bihar, whereas, his driving license carried Mahalaxmi in central Mumbai as his address, Paraskar said. "The 36-year-old used to work in HDFC bank here with a salary of Rs 15,000 per month. He claimed he had left the job due to some personal and family problems and now has been staying in Patna," Paraskar said. The seizure of weapons is significant ahead of civic body elections in the city, Paraskar said adding that, "We are interrogating him to ascertain who was the receiver of the weapons." Further probe is on.
