Puducherry, Jan 28 (PTI) Minister of State in PMO V Narayanasamy today described as "unfortunate" and "unprecented" in Puducherry's history' the violence by workers of a private factory at Yanam, an enclave of the union territory, in Andhra Pradesh, that led to the loss of two lives. "Such alarming incidents of labour unrest in an industry leading to death of two persons are unprecedented in the labour history of Puducherry," he told PTI. He said there should be no room for violence and rioting as that would only cause dislocation and threat to law and order, besides freezing economic development. K C Chandrasekhar, President(Operations) of Regency Ceramics died of injuries in an attack by workers who indulged in violence, leading to a police lathicharge and subsequent firing, leaving nine injured after learning their union leader M S Murali Mohan died allegedly in the police action. Over 800 workers had been staging daily protests since January 2 demanding that services of senior workers be regularised and wages revised.
