Nagpur, Feb 10 (PTI) The Vidarbha Economic Development Council (VED) will be organising 'Nagpur Calling', a day-long conference on IT/ITeS on February 24 here, in association with NASSCOM. The objective was to attract information technology enabled services (ITeS) companies to MIHAN since it is employment-oriented. The event is being promoted all over India and VED expects a pan-India participation. Apart from the conference, there will also be a visit to MIHAN for the delegates. NASSCOM will be the knowledge partner, VED president Davendra Parekh told reporters here. He said the role of BPOs in India's Economic Growth has been tremendous, especially in the last few years, when the demand for outsourcing work to India has been significant among western companies. The IT-ITeS industry has created career opportunities for the youth, provided global exposure and offered extensive training and development. Furthermore, the industry has been a front-runner in bridging the gender divide in the Indian workforce (over 30 per cent of employees are women; over 60 per cent of industry players employ differently ambled people). It has played a key role in putting India on the world map. The industry has attracted more than 10 per cent of total FDI flowing into India, he said. The industry also led in the development of the Indian organizations as global multinationals -- with over 400 delivery centres (outside India), the industry has presence in 52 countries, and 200 cities with more than 10 organisations listed on overseas stock exchanges and more than 400 Fortune 500 customers. Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithiviraj Chavan will inaugurate the conference. Key speakers include K Raghvendra, Vice President and HRD head Infosys Technologies; Ajay Chaturvedi, founder CEO HARVA; U P S Madan, Vice-chairman MD of Mihan and others.
