Unequipped Powerlifting Championship to begin from Thursday

Jamshedpur, Oct 11 (PTI) The first ever Unequipped National Men and Women Powerlifting Championship will commence at the J R D Tata Sports Complex here from Thursday. On the basis of the performance of this national event, the Indian team will be selected to take part in the forthcoming Commonwealth Powerlifting Championship to be held at Bournemouth, England during December 15 to 18, said Subrata Dutta, general secretary of Asian and Indian Powerlifting Federation. Referring to the Unequipped National Championship, Dutta, a hall of fame and Arjuna Awardee, told newsmen that this Powerlifting championship will prove the actual strength of the players without the support of Powerlifting gears such as knee-wrap, squat, bench and deadlift suit. Around 300 lifters including 80 women from over 21 states will vie for top honour during the four-day meet. The Asian Congress, who will be meeting at Kobe City, Japan during the Asian Powerlifting Championship, will decide the venue for the next edition of the Unequipped Asian Powerlifting Championship.
