Two held on extortion charges

Mumbai, Feb 9 (PTI) Mumbai Crime Branch today arrested two persons on charges of extortion. Deepak Dandekar and Krishnaji Mahatre would allegedly morph the photographs of women and demand money for not sending them to their husbands, police said. They were nabbed from near Sion station. The police said they received information that two people used to take photographs of women by going to their houses under the pretext of seeking donations. The duo used to later morph the pictures and seek money for not circulating the photos. Dandekar had opened a bank account where he would tell his victims to deposit the money, they said. Crime Branch officers said during the interrogation it came to light that there were two cases registered against them in Navi Mumbai and Amravati. Dandekar is also wanted in a case in adjoining Raigad district where he allegedly made fake bail papers and cheated people to the tune of Rs 57 lakh, they said. Police have recovered a mobile phone, SIM card and bank documents from them.
