Chennai, Feb13 (PTI) The tenure of Justice K Sampath Commission, probing last year's police firing at Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district in which six persons were killed, was today extended by another four months. The second extension came on the basis of a letter from the Secretary to the Commission that it could not complete the probe within the stipulated period and requested that the tenure be extended, a state government release said. "The Government after careful consideration has decided to extend the period of Justice K Sampath Commission of Inquiry constituted for a further period of four months and 17 days," it said. Though scheduled to submit its report in November 2011, the government had then extended the Commission's tenure by three months as it had not completed the inquiry. Six persons died in the police firing after a crowd of Dalits allegedly indulged in violence following detention of their leader John Pandian while on his way to pay homage to Dalit leader Imanuel Sekar on his death anniversary at Paramakudi on September 11.
