Coimbatore, Aug 10 (PTI) A ten-day-old elephant calf, which was washed ashore recently at a river bank and rescued by forest department officials at Valparai in the district, died today, forest officials said. The calf was found struggling on the Kurangumudi river bank on August 2 and was rescued from near drowning by forest department officials. Since the mother elephant could not be traced, the officials were taking care of the calf for the last one week. The health condition of the calf, which was being fed milk and glucose, suddenly started deteriorating last night and it died early today, officials said.
