Madurai, Feb 6 (PTI) Two Tahsildars in the district were transferred by Madurai Collector U Sagayam after an inspection found they were not staying in the respective residential premises allotted to them. Sagayam transferred the Vadipatti and Melur tahsildhars following an inspection last night, Revenue Department officials said. A recent State government order had stated that the Village Administrative Officers (VAOs) and other revenue officers should be available in the headquarters or respective jurisdiction limits, they said. In the event of any law and order problem the VAO and Tahsildhar should be present along with the police, they said. During the visit to Melur, the Collector was told that the Tahsildhar was not available at the official quarters. In Vadipatti also, the Tahsildhar did not stay in the official quarters. Initial investigation revealed that they were staying in the city, the officials said.
