Stars set to light up Kanpur polls

Kanpur, Feb 11 (PTI) Kanpur is gearing up for a star-studded election campaign for the fifth phase of polls on February 23 with several celebrities and actors all set to descend on the city next week. The Congress has actor and MP Raj Babbar, ex-cricket captain Mohd Azharuddin, Raveena Tandon, Nagma and Sanjay Dutt among its star campaigners, besides party chief Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. It also hoping to have Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the city. The party also has Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit and Union Minister Shriprakash Jaiswal lined up for campaigning. Not to be left behind, BJP is also ready with its team of stars and senior leaders. Prominent leaders like Nitin Gadkari, Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley will be here to support the party's campaign. The BJP's star campaigners include ex-minister and actor Shatrughan Sinha, Hema Malini, TV star Smriti Irani and ex-cricketer Navjot Sidhu. But, the BSP has shunned any star power and has party veterans like Satish Chandra Mishra and Naseemuddin Siddique to boost its campaign here. Samajwadi Party also has does not have any celebrities as party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav along with son Akhilesh Yadav and senior leaders Shivpal Yadav and Azam Khan will be the crowd-pullers.
