Srinagar-Leh NH to remain open till weather allows: JK Govt

Jammu, Nov 14 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir government today said the Srinagar-Leh highway, the only surface communication to twin districts of Kargil and Ladakh, should remain open till the weather allows. "The Srinagar-Leh important road link, the lifeline for the people of the area, should remain open till the weather allows," Minister for Transport, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Qamar Ali Akhoon said today. He was reviewing the condition of Srinagar-Kargil-Leh National Highway at a high-level meeting of officers held here under his chairmanship. It was decided in the meeting that the road's condition would be reviewed again by the concerned officers next week. The highway is expected to be covered by large quantity of snow during winter season. The meeting was informed that the forest clearance for construction of 6.05 km long phase 1 of Z-Morh Tunnel had been taken up with the concerned department and construction work would begin after completing the required formalities. Meanwhile, persons planning to travel on Srinagar-Leh highway have been instructed to verify its traffic status from the concerned authorities before embarking on their journey. PTI AB MNS
