THE HAGUE (Reuters) - Former Bosnian Serb army commander Ratko Mladic, 70, appeared on Wednesday for his genocide trial looking confident, flashing a thumbs-up and clapping his hands as he entered the courtroom.

He is charged with commanding the 1995 massacre of up to 8,000 Muslim men and boys in the Bosnian enclave of Srebrenica and could be imprisoned for life if found guilty by judges at the U.N. tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
