Rhino calf found dead

Lakhimpur Kheri, Jan 9 (PTI) A rhino calf was found dead in the Dudhwa Tiger Reserve here today, Deputy Director (DTR) Ganesh Bhat said. The calf was found dead in Rhino Rehabilitation Area (RRA) of the Reserve, he said. No injury marks were found on the carcass and the death could be due to intense cold sweeping the area, Bhat told PTI. "A 3-member panel of doctors has been asked to conduct the post-mortem to ascertain the exact cause of the death," he said. Under the Rhino Rehabilitation programme, rhinos were reintroduced to their ancestral land after a gap of over a century. Starting from just five rhinos in 1984, the Dudhwa has 33 rhinos at present.
