Ahmedabad, Feb 9 (PTI) Former Gujarat DGP, R B Sreekumar, today wrote to the Supreme Court-appointed special investigation team (SIT), which probed the cases related to 2002 Gujarat riots, asking it to record his statement before a magistrate. Sreekumar, who had alleged that SIT was shielding Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, has also sought a copy of his earlier statement recorded by the agency in June 2009. The ex-DGP has said in the letter that he was prompted to write to SIT following media reports that SIT's final report to the court exonerates Modi and others. "I had seen the alleged pro-Modi trend of SIT since June 2009 and had submitted to you numerous suggestion reports, expecting mid-course correction measures. The act of submission of the closure report, ignoring the suggestions from the riot-affected by SIT, had prompted me to write," the letter says. "I request you to arrange for recording the whole cluster of my evidence and assortment of inputs on riots provided by me to SIT, under section 164(1) of Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973, for ensuring their sound legal foundations, higher degree of credibility, acceptability and appreciability (sic)."
