The protesters, however, braved the water cannons in the winter chill and refused to leave the high-security area. They continued to chant slogans demanding justice for the 23-year-old victim. Police also resorted to force and burst tear gas shells against the young protesters to break their ranks. The entire area was filled with tear gas. One girl was injured in the melee.
