Rape accused attempts suicide in jail

Rajkot, Jun 26 (PTI) A 57-year-old man, arrested for allegedly raping his eight-year-old grand-daughter, tried to commit suicide in Junagadh district jail here, police said. Vinod Parmar, who was sent to jail after his one day remand got over yesterday, attempted to commit suicide by hanging himself from ceiling inside a barack last night, police said. "Parmar hanged himself from ceiling and was later rushed to Junagadh civil hospital in an unconscious state, from where he was referred to Rajkot civil hospital for further treatment," police sub-inspector G N Makwana, who is investigating the case, said. According to police, Parmar was arrested for raping his grand-daughter a couple of days back, after the victim's mother lodged a complaint against him in this connection. PTI VJA NP
