Rangasamy seeks Rs 267 crore for civic bodies

Puducherry, Sept 20 (PTI) Chief Minister N.Rangasamy has sought from the Centre a grant of Rs 267.10 crores to meet the requirements of civic bodies in the Union Territory. Rangasamy made the plea during during his meeting with the Union Home and Finance Ministers in New Delhi yesterday. This requirement was assessed as per the estimates finalised under guidelines of the Central Finance Commission. The civic bodies could go ahead with their developmental programmes once the grant was released, an official release here said today. Rangasamy had apprised the Central Ministers of the requirements of the five municipal councils and the ten commune panchayats in Puducherry and Karaikal regions. The release also stated that the Chief Minister had also sought the allocation of Rs 70 crores that remained to be earmarked out of Rs 125 crores by the Centre for the rehabilitation works in the context of the Thane cyclone that hit Puducherry in December last year.
