Nagercoil (TN), Jan 28 (PTI) Certain questions raised by an anti-nuclear forum protesting against commissioning of the Koodankulam Nuclear Power Project would be addressed at the next meeting between central experts committee and Tamil Nadu government panel, a top official said here today. "The anti-KNPP protestors had raised certain questions at the previous meeting in December 2011, which scientific experts have gone through. The report will be submitted in the next meeting," Dr A E Muthunayagam, convener of the 15-member expert panel on KNPP, told reporters at nearby Thuckalay. The state panel also comprises representatives of the protestors. The previous three rounds of talks between the panels on November 7, 18 and December 15 last year failed to make any headway towards commissioning of the first unit of KNPP in Tirunelveli district as local people protesting against it were not satisfied with replies to their queries by the expert group. Muthunayagam said locals were harbouring "needless fears" on KNPP over a Fukushima-type disaster in Japan or whether there could be a nuclear explosion. "There are major differences in the processing, material and technology between a nuclear reactor and nuclear bomb in the form of controlled (reactor) and uncontrolled (bomb) reaction," he said. Muthunayagam said KNPP would not be destroyed by any natural disaster or nuclear radiation as steps have been taken to ensure complete protection to the plant, its workers and the general public.
