Hyderabad, Feb 13 (PTI) The Planning Commission and the department of AYUSH of the Centre are jointly working on how to integrate the AYUSH systems into the various national health programmes, a senior government official said today. The modalities of the initiative are being worked out, Anil Kumar, secretary, department of AYUSH, said addressing a National Workshop on Clinical Research Methodology in Unani Medicine at the Central Research Institute of Unani Medicine here. Stating that the Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeo (AYUSH) systems would be integrated in programmes related to malnutrition, anaemia, mother and child health care, he hoped that the plan would be a reality in another one or two years. The AYUSH and Director General of Health Services (DGHS) are working on a plan as per which doctors of both the streams would tour various districts in the country where health indicators are low, he said. The senior official also said an All India Institute of Unani Medicine would be set up. He said more and more patients and even various countries in the world are showing greater interest in the ancient system of medicine. A garden of medicinal plants would be set up in the premises of Sri Lankan Parliament, he said. Anil Kumar also stressed on the need to improve the quality of education in colleges and research.
