Agartala, Feb 11 (PTI) The opposition Congress in Tripura today criticised Chief Minister Manik Sarkar for reappointing former minister for Food and Civil Supply Sahid Chowdhury who was dropped from the cabinet following alleged links with a Bangladeshi arms dealer. Chowdhury, who also held the office of Minority Affairs Minister, had resigned from the cabinet in April 2008 in the wake of a media report that he had alleged links with Bangladeshi arms dealer Mamun Mia. Chowdhury will be administered oath of office tomorrow by Governor D Y Patil, sources said. Leader of the opposition Ratan Lal Nath today met the Governor at Raj Bhavan and requested him not to administer Chowdhury the oath of office as he had alleged links with Bangladeshi arms dealer and HUJI activist Mamun Mia. Mia was sentenced to 10 years rigorous imprisonment by Chief Judicial Magistrate court here for forging documents to secure Indian citizenship. The alleged link between 54-year-old Chowdhury and Mia had rocked the state politics since 2008. However, Chowdhuri's link with the Bangladeshi arms dealer is yet to be proved. He was elected to the assembly three times from Boxanagar in West Tripura and was inducted as a minister in March 2008. Nath alleged Mia was a HUJI activist with whom the former minister had direct link but no proper inquiry was conducted against him. "We demanded to the chief minister to order a CBI inquiry for proper investigation but the CM ordered a CID inquiry which was an eye wash to hush up the truth," Nath told reporters.
