Puducherry, Feb 10 (PTI) Decrying the national media for 'predominantly busying' itself with criticising government, Minister of State in PMO V Narayanasamy today asked the media to highlight achivements and positive side of the UPA regime. Media was predominantly busying itself in criticising the government.`Whenever in Parliament good issues were raised they are not highlighted and are sidelined," he said on the inaugural day of a two-day Conference of All-India Editors on Social Sector issues here. He said regional media was more vital and effective and the intention of the government was to have more interaction with it.`I am sorry to state that our mind set is only on the national media. But regional media is more vital and effective and communicates easier and better than English media`. Making it clear that the government respected media and wanted to give more focus on regional media apart from the national media, he requested them to focus on the achievements of the government such as health, education, rural and urban development, social sector and in administrative reforms. Puducherry Lt Governor Dr Iqbal Singh in his speech said in a democracy the role of Press was paramount. `As the fourth Estate they do share the onus of providing good governance along with the other three pillars -- Legislature, Executive and Judiciary. Media made democracy to function in its true spirit by informing the citizens about the developments in the country.` Chief Minister N.Rangasamy said human resources development was of utmost importance and said Puducherry Government left no stone to meet the basic requirements of the poor and downtrodden in all sectors.
