Modi lambastes centre on meat export policy

Valsad(Guj), May 17 (PTI) Coming down heavily against the Centre for its policy on meat exports, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said it was committing a 'sin' by encouraging 'pink revolution' (export of mutton). "While Gujarat was heading with green and white revolution, union government has adopted a policy of encouraging 'pink revolution'," Modi said, while inaugurating 'Krushi Mahotsav' at Nana Pondha here. He also challenged the Centre to achieve half the agriculture growth as Gujarat has done in last few years. The state has clocked a double digit growth in agriculture over the last many years. "Such anti-peasant policy would ruin the agriculture sector that was mainly supported by animal husbandry. Gujarat would never tolerate such an anti-farmer policy," he said. Modi also announced that to encourage value addition in agro-industry, his government has decided to set up a high level committee to suggest measures for strengthening agro-infrastructure in Gujarat. The committee will consist of renowned agro scientists, agronomists, progressive farmers and experts from the government side. Outlining state's pro-agro policy Modi said, "We have set up 22 Agriculture Colleges in the state." (MORE)PTI VKB PD ABC
