Shillong, Feb 5 (PTI) Under fire for the abduction of three power engineers and their release after 12 days in captivity of Garo National Liberation Army in Garo Hills region, Meghalaya government today said it was committed to neutralizing the terrorist group. "We are committed in going all out to neutralize the terrorist outfit," state Home Minister H D R Lyngdoh told reporters. Lyngdoh claimed the state Home department has adopted a 'strategy' to deal with the terrorist group. "The strategy we adopted compelled the terrorists to release the power engineers unharmed," Lyngdoh said. Deemed as a terrorist group on January 12, the GNLA has unleashed terror in the three Garo Hills district of the state for the past three years. They (GNLA) abducted and freed three power engineers serving in the Garo Hills region on February 4 after 12 days in captivity. Last year, a BDO was abducted and kept in captivity for one month before he was released. In 2010, a transport official was abducted and taught a lesson allegedly for being corrupt by the GNLA. The Home Minister maintained that the state's force are 'capable' enough to deal with the present situation in entire Garo Hills defying suggestions from the Union Home Ministry to use the Army to flush the terrorists. Formed by former DSP Pakchara R Sangma alias Champion R Sangma, the outfit has been involved in abduction, killing and extortion in the three Garo Hills districts. PTI JOP RG
