Man arrested 10 years after murdering woman

Kochi, Jan 31 (PTI) A man, who murdered his neighbour's wife 10 years ago at a village in Thrissur district in January 2003, has been arrested by the crime branch. The accused, a tribal, had murdered his neighbour's wife, along with another man after a rape bid. The woman had gone to the forest to graze her cow. The duo used to brew arrack in the forest and when they saw the woman, tried to rape her. When she resisted, they killed her, police said. To make it look like an accident, they tied one end of the rope round her neck and drove the animal away. It was thought she had died after the rope got entangled in her neck. However, her husband filed a petition in the High Court stating that his wife's death was no accident, following which the court ordered the crime branch in November 2008 to probe it. At least 300 persons were questioned and polygraph test was also conducted on the accused. PTI UD APR SG MAV
