Krishna meets UNGA President

New Delhi, Feb 15 (PTI) External Affairs Minister S M Krishna today met United Nations General Assembly President Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nasser here and is understood to have discussed the reforms of the UN Security Council and other agencies of the organisation. Welcoming Al-Nasser, Krishna said his first-ever visit to the country comes at a "crucial time" when UNGA is considering the structural reforms of the Security Council and various other agencies of the United Nations. India and other emerging economies like Brazil and Japan have been pushing for reforms of the powerful UN body so as to reflect the geo-political realities of 21st century. Al-Naseer said the reforms of UNSC is one of the four important issues which he would be tackling during the tenure and appreciated India's work in the world body. Noting that the world has been passing through "difficult times", he said the issues have to be resolved through peaceful means. He also said among other important challenge before him was the theme of sustainable development in the world. The UNGA President also lauded India's role in the global body and stressed on the cooperation between the two sides.
