''Kidnapped'' BSP corporators to stay away from Thane Mayoral
elections Thane, Feb 21 (PTI) The BSP today said that two of their party corporators in the city's municipal corporation, who were recently in the midst of a kidnap drama, have decided not to vote in the mayoral election of the civic body. Addressing a media conference here, Thane BSP chief Sunil Khambe said the two party corporators Vilas Kamble and Sushila Yadav, had opted out of the polls. Tension had prevailed in the city late Sunday night after an offense was registered against Shiv Sena MLA Eknath Shinde and two other partymen for allegedly kidnapping Kamble and Yadav to ensure victory in the Mayoral elections, where is party is three short of a majority. However, Kamble cleared the air by giving a statement to the police that he had not been kidnapped. Khambe alleged that it was NCP leader Jitendra Awhad, who had managed the entire high pitched drama using his political clout. In the 130-member house in the civic body, Shiv Sena-BJP-RPI has managed a strength of 62 and falls 4 short of the magic figure, while the NCP has 34 corporators and Congress 18 corporators. MNS has a strength of 7, while nine are independents.
