JK govt to pay Rs 1 Lakh compensation to leopard attack victim

Jammu, June 27 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir government will pay Rs one lakh to the next of the kin of the child killed in leopard attack and Rs 30,000 to the injured person. A child was killed and another injured in an attack by a leopard at Darimal Ghambair Mughala in Rajouri district yesterday. Minister of State for Forest Shabir Ahmed Khan said government would provide the ex-gratia and asked Wild Life Authorities to ensure completion of necessary formalities in this regard for early payment of the compensation to the deceased's family. He said Rs 30,000 would be also provided to the injured child for treatment. The injured child was been shifted to hospital for special treatment and Rs 10,000 paid in advance. Taking serious notice of such man-animal conflicts, the Minister directed concerned authorities that such incidents should be minimized by keeping a strict vigil especially near forest habitations.
