India pitches for connectivity among South & Cetral Asia

Chandigarh, Mar 30 (PTI) India today stressed on improved transport connectivity and economic cooperation among countries in Central and South Asia for their mutual benefit. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee said no country lives alone and the "primary requirement to bring together the region is the connectivity and I am emphasizing on physical connectivity". He said it was imperative for countries in Central and South Asia to work towards peace which was necessary to provide fillip to the economic development of the region. Mukherjee was delivering the valedictory address at the International Conference on Cooperative Development, Peace and Security in South and Central Asia, organised by the Centre for Research in Rural and Industrial Development (CRRID), here. "As India advances in the field of education, economic advancement, technology and heads to be an open and free society, inter-connectivity in the region becomes important. No nation lives alone and a successful quest for accelerated development require a peaceful environment," he said. He laid stress on improving the connectivity in the region in order to bring the nations of Centre and South Asia together. (more)
