IAF set to improve quality of uniforms

Nagpur, Jun 18 (PTI) In an effort to improve the quality of uniforms for Air Force personnel, a conference on clothing management of the IAF began here today. "The IAF personnel operate in varied conditions of weather and terrain. Their uniforms are not only a matter of great pride but also protects them from extremities of weather and enhances their operational efficiency," AOC-in-C, Maintenance Command, Air Marshal Jagdish Chandra said during the inaugural session. "Our efforts should be to improve on the quality, quantity and biometrics of production of various uniforms that we wear. New technology on fabric production and tailoring is available and is improving consistently," he said, adding that it should be made use of and stock outs should be prevented at all costs. The conference is being held under the auspices of the Logistics Management Branch of headquarters, Maintenance Command to improve the clothing and uniforms of IAF personnel. Assistance of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) and Indian Institute of Technology (IITs) on design of various uniforms and quality of fabric has already been sought. The uniforms are manufactured by various Ordnance Factories at Kanpur, Shahjahanpur, Avadi (near Chennai) and their representatives are also attending the conference. The conference would synergise all agencies that provide clothing to IAF and would conclude tomorrow, a release from defence PRO said. PTI JOE GK GK
