Shimla, Feb 9 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh government has offered land and all other assistance for setting up the regional centre of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) in the state to help provide technical guidance in climate change and environment protection, Chief minister P. K.Dhumal today said. Laying the foundation stone of State Centre of Climate Change here, he said the state Centre on Climate Change and Department of Environment would enter into technical Memorandum of Understanding for areas of cooperation in areas like climate change, energy efficiency, agriculture/horticulture, biotechnology and modelling sustainable development. He said government was working closely with local communities to assess the carbon footprint at panchayat level and was developing its hydro power resource which will reduce the carbon intensity of IndiaÂ's power sector and address peak shortages. Chief Minister also released Inventory of Himachal Pradesh on Green House Gas Emission. Noted Environment R.K.Pachauri lauded the initiatives and achievements of the state on environment front and said Himachal Pradesh had established its credibility as a motivating force in protecting the environment and setting up of the State Centre for Climate Change was a step forward. He said Himachal Pradesh had taken lead in preparation of GSG Emission Inventory in the country and briefed about the activities of TERI.
