Mumbai, Feb 9 (PTI) Taking serious view of the allegation that Nashik police threatened a student in connection with an ongoing court case, the Bombay High Court today said the officers would face the music if it was true. The division bench of justices S A Bobade and R D Dhanuka was hearing a PIL filed by NGO Criminal Justice Initiative against the unwarranted handcuffing of undertrials. In one instance, the petition says, three college students, who were facing a criminal case, were handcuffed even while they wrote their examinations. They had been arrested for participating in a protest against a proposed SEZ in Nashik. The petition has attached photograph of the students handcuffed to desks. Advocate Gayatri Singh, for the NGO, today told the court that certain police officers met one of the students a few days ago, and forcibly took a statement from him saying that he had not been handcuffed. "The matter assumes seriousness because it amounts to interference. When we are seized of the matter such interference would amount to serious consequences," Justice Bobade said. The court today directed the student to put the allegation on an affidavit. Next hearing is on February 21.
