Chandigarh, Feb 18 (PTI) The Haryana Government has sought Rs 125 crore compensation for crop loss due to frost in some areas after the Centre deputed a team to asses the situation. Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar acceded to the request of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda by deputing a team to assess damage to crops including moong and mustard due to frost in the state. The team will soon visit the affected areas of the state. Hooda told reporters that he had written a letter to Pawar to include compensation for frost loss in the Natural Calamity Fund. He said that Haryana has sought Rs 125 crore as compensation for the crop loss, particularly in southern Haryana. "I request you to include cold wave and frost in the list of natural calamities.... I would request that atleast Rs 125 crore be provided to Haryana so that relief can be provided to the affected farmers," Hooda has said in a letter written to Pawar. To a question, Hooda said he had ordered a 'special girdawari' (revenue survey) to assess the loss to the crops caused by frost. The Chief Minister said the budget would be presented in March. Hitting out at opposition parties, Hooda said that they no issue to raise. When asked that the opposition preparing a "chargesheet" highlighting the alleged failures of the state government, Hooda, without naming any opposition leader, said "those against whom charges have been framed in courts and Enforcement Directorate is investigating charges of money laundering are now talking about chargesheet. "First, they should introspect and then raise fingers at others." On a Dalit being attacked in Hisar district this week when he had taken water to quench his thirst from the pitcher of a man belonging to a higher caste, Hooda said, "It is an unfortunate incident. However, police was prompt to take action against the culprit...law will take its own course."
