Govt in process of revising DAVP rates for newspapers

New Delhi, Dec 19 (PTI) The government today said it was in the process of revising the rates of government advertisement rates for newspapers. The rates have already been raised twice in the past two and half years by DAVP and an expert committee was in process of coming out with new rates, Minister of Information and Broadcasting Ambika Soni said during the Question Hour in Rajya Sabha. She was responding to a supplementary question of Vijay Jawaharlal Darda (Cong) who said cost of publication was increasing and wanted to know whether the revision would take place taking into consideration recommendation of wage boards for journalist and non-journalist employees for wage hike. The Directorate of Advertising and Visual Publicity (DAVP), established in 1955, is the nodal multi-media advertising agency of the government. Soni also informed that as many as 205 applications for empanelment from newspapers and journals till July 31 this fiscal. During the period, a total of 704 applications were received for empanelment. In 2010-11, 788 applications were approved against request of 1,689. The minister said applications are accepted as received and there is "no selective methodology" for approving empanelment.
