MUMBAI (Reuters) - Indian is planning to build new major ports in Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh and in Gujarat, Shipping Secretary K Mohandas said.

"This capacity is essential for efficient handling of cargo," Mohandas said at an industry conference on Wednesday.

Indian port capacity crossed 1 billion tonnes last year.
