Govt, army to hold seperate probes into firing incident

Srinagar, Feb 11 (PTI) Jammu and Kashmir government and the Army will hold separate probes into the firing by security forces that allegedly led to the death of a youth in Baramulla district of the Valley. "The Sub-Divisional Magistrate will conduct a probe into the death of Ashiq Hussain and submit his report within one month," Minister of State for Home Nasir Aslam Wani told PTI. Protests rocked Rafiabad area of Baramulla district for the second day today over the killing of the youth allegedly in firing by security forces. Hussain, a resident of Lesar village in Rafiabad area of Baramulla district, 75 kms from here, died after being hit by a bullet at around 9.00 PM last night. Army has also ordered an internal probe to ascertain the circumstances in which the 22-year-old youth was killed. General Officer Commanding of Army's 15 Corps Lt General S A Hasnain visited the area and assured that a transparent and fair probe will be conducted into the incident. The army commander also expressed regret over the incident. Following the assurances from the civil and army authorities, the local residents ended their protest and buried the body.
