Shillong, Feb 09 (PTI) A hardcore cadre of Garo Hills-based terrorist outfit, Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), was killed early today in an encounter with security forces, the police said. The gunfight took place in a jungle at Megra village in Songsak Police Station, about 25 km from East Garo Hills district headquarters, they said. A pistol, a grenade and some incriminating documents were seized from the body of the killed terrorist, the police said. According to the police, teams of Meghalaya Police's Swift Weapons and Tactics team and CRPF CoBRA personnel raided the hideout in which they said around six terrorists were hiding in the jungle. GNLA which is active in the three impoverished Garo Hills districts in Meghalaya has been deemed as a terrorist outfit by Centre on January 12.
