Freedom hope rise for Indian couple, their minor grandchild

New Delhi, Apr 24 (PTI) Hopes of freedom brightened today for an Indian couple and their grandchild from a prison in Bangladesh several months after they served out their 2-month jail term in connection with a case. Official sources here said Indian High Commission met the jail authorities in Kushthia in western Bangladesh today and were told that border guards of the two countries have already on the issue and the three Indians are expected to be handed over to India soon. Hachimuddin Sheikh (48), Mafroza Khatun (about 40) and their grandchild Ariful Sheikh (5) from West Bengal's Murshidabad district have served out their sentence and the jail authorities in Kushthia were waiting for a formal release order from Bangladesh Home Ministry, said the sources. The Indian High Commission in Dhaka took up the issue with Bangladesh Home and Foreign Ministries and succeeded in securing their formal clearances for the release of the trio. "Our officials have been in touch with the Kushthia jail authorities today again. They have been informed that the Bangladesh Border Guard and BSF have already met on the issue and it is expected that the exchange will take place through Darshana checkpost", said the sources. Hachimuddin, along with Mafroza and Ariful, had gone to Bangladesh apparently to see his ailing mother and were apprehended in April last year. They were sentenced by a judicial magistrate court in Kushthia to 2 months in prison and ordered to be repatriated to India but had been languishing in jail even after their prison term was over.
